5 Ways How to Cope With a Narcissist Mother
Having a narcissistic mother can be a challenging experience. It can feel like you're walking on eggshells all the time, never knowing when you'll trigger an outburst. Coping with a narcissistic mother may seem impossible, but it is doable. Here are some tips to help you cope with a narcissistic mother.
🔸Set Boundaries:
One of the most important things you can do when dealing with a narcissistic mother is to set boundaries. Be clear about what you will and won't tolerate, and stick to those boundaries. If you feel like your mother is crossing a line, calmly and respectfully let her know.
🔸Keep Your Emotions in Check:
Narcissistic mothers thrive on drama and attention. Don't give them the satisfaction of seeing you upset. Stay calm and collected, and don't let their behavior affect your emotional state.
🔸Don't Take It Personally:
Remember that your mother's behavior is not a reflection of you. Narcissists have a way of making everything about themselves, so don't take it personally when your mother behaves in a selfish or hurtful way.
🔸Keep Your Distance:
If your mother's behavior is too much to handle, it's okay to keep your distance. You don't have to cut her out of your life completely, but you may need to limit your interactions with her to protect your own mental health.
🔸Seek Support:
Dealing with a narcissistic mother can be isolating. Seek support from friends, family, or a therapist who can help you navigate this difficult situation.
Remember that coping with a narcissistic mother is a process. It won't happen overnight, and it won't always be easy. But with time and effort, you can learn to manage your relationship with your mother in a way that is healthy and sustainable for you.
Sadly, for myself I had no option to go fully No Contact as no matter how hard I tried to keep it healthy, it was impossible. I know for some these five ways work, as does the Grey Rock method.
Above all, remember you and your feelings, your healing is important. This is why I've created the Heartbreak to Healing Workbook, which you can download for free on my homepage here.
